 photo logo_zpsd9b498e2.gif

With a love for the Lord Jesus Christ, a heart for children, and a passion for ministry, Dave and Pat Holt bring you the See the LightSee the Light is Biblically based, geared for elementary to middle schooled aged children, and taught by using simple step by step instructions.

See the Light has many wonderful products, from their Art Class Volumes, to their Art Projects Set, to their Bible Stories.  We we excited to receive God's Special Surprise, which is one of their Bible Stories.

God's Special Surprise starts with The Moses Story.  It’s the dramatic story of baby Moses, God’s Special Surprise to the Israelites, brought to life through art and sound.  Funny Bunny was captivated by both the story and the art that went along with it.

Next comes three different art lessons by three different artists. The first is a lesson called SURPRISE! where Heidi Shorts teaches a 23-minute lesson on the art of Creative Lettering.  Funny Bunny had fun drawing the letters to look like they were chiseled in stone.

The second is a 35-minute lesson called Hope for a Nation.  It's presented by Master Artist Pat Knepley.  She leads artists in a step-by-step drawing lesson using chalk pastels.  Funny Bunny is still finalizing this so I'll post it when she has completed it.

The last lesson is called Moses in the Nile.  Jim Pence gives a 26-minute mixed media art lesson using permanent marker, watercolors, colored pencils, and fluorescent crayons.  Funny Bunny really enjoyed this lesson.  I think it was her favorite!  It looks even better under the black light.

The DVD also has some fun bonus features that are neat to watch!

Thoughts of a 10-Year Old:  See the Light is fun to watch, but even more fun to draw!  My favorite piece of artwork was Moses In The Nile with Jim Pence.  Not only did it look amazing as it was, but you look at it a whole different way under the black light!  These were great art projects and I hope to get more See The Lights!

Find Out More:  You can find out more online at See the LightGod's Special Surprise is only $14.99 and contains 3 art lessons and 285 minutes of content.  It's geared for elementary to middle schooled aged children and I love how it integrates the Bible throughout the entire DVD.  The artists do an excellent job in gently teaching the children and telling the stories.  Here you can see some sample lessons and downloads.  We have also reviewed See the Light: The Crossmaker.

My Crewmates are also reviewing See the Light, so you can check out what they think HERE.

FPEA Homeschool Convention

Homeschool Conventions
Funny Bunny and I were able to attend the FPEA Homeschool Convention over the weekend and had a blast!  We were originally only going on Friday but a friend {and fellow blogger} offered their room to share so we could stay the night.

It was HUGE, but thankfully I never found it overwhelming like I had heard.  Since we were only there for one full day, we didn't listen to any of the speakers, so we spent our time visiting with vendors and relaxing.

I made it over to The Old Schoolhouse booth and spent a couple hours chatting with Paul Suarez, Publisher of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine.  He was great and now I wish I would have taken a picture of us together.  Below is the booth at least.  :)

Other highlights included meeting Dwane Thomas with Visual LatinWe reviewed Visual Latin back in 2011 and will be including it in Funny Bunny's 5th grade curriculum.  He's hilarious if you haven't seen him.

We also met Andrew Pudewa with the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW).  We will be reviewing one of his products in July, so stay tuned!

Funny Bunny was just a tad star stuck with meeting both Dwane and Andrew because she has only seen them on videos and online.  If the pool was the coolest thing there, they definitely came in a strong second!  ;)

We met a few other vendors, which I'll tell you about later.  Oh, and below is the pool.  I wish I could tell you about how wonderful it was but I was sweating on the sidelines in my jeans because my luggage was still in the car...waaay at the back of the parking lot {where the cows roam}.  Apparently getting there right at 9am on Friday morning is what a LOT of people do.

We had a wonderful time and I hope to go back again!  It's definitely an experience worth having!

Don’t Let Your Kids Miss This!!

I know that a lot of people have already heard about this, but I wanted to be sure that you hadn’t missed it.  If you’re looking for a good AND educational activity to keep your kids engaged during the summer {and learning at the same time}, I wanted to pass this on to you.

There’s this amazing hands-on summer science camp that kids do online, so they can do it on your schedule and never even need to leave the house.  But, it’s still a totally hands-on camp, so they’re really building things and doing cool experiments.  Plus, it’s designed so they can do it themselves {perfect if you’re busy like me, or if science isn’t your thing}.

Originally registration closed at the end of last week.  But, it turns out there’s still some space left in the camp, so they’ve just re-opened it for 2 days {registration closes on Thur. May 23}.  If you want to give your kids a really amazing summer, check it out!

So take a moment to head on over to Supercharged Science now!

Homeschool Mother's Journal 5-17-13

Things are finally starting to slow down and some extra curricular classes are ending.

In our homeschool this week…

We are finally finished with Preparing Hearts for His Glory!!  It feels so good to be done...and it's not even the end of May!

Funny Bunny is still working on a few things, but she is done with everything before lunch.

Math Word Problems, Writing, and Reading Comprehension

Math Mammoth {Review coming soon}

Prima Latina {Review coming soon}

Books Funny Bunny is reading independently...

In my life this week…

Well, there hasn't been as much running around this week, which has been nice.  And the house is a lot cleaner!

If you've been following my blog or Facebook page, you know we have been watching our caterpillars growing in our garden.  Yesterday we had to go out and buy another milkweed plant because they have almost completely eaten the first one.

It's actually been a really good learning opportunity.  We already knew about their life cycle, but we've learned about their eating habits, other insects in the garden like aphids, ladybugs, milkweed bugs, and ants, and we've learned about their predators.  And did you know that ladybugs have a life cycle too?  That was news to us.  Look it up, you'll be surprised!

Supercharged Science e-Camp!

I reviewed Supercharged Science last month and Funny Bunny and I just LOVED it!!

Well, Aurora's Supercharged Science Online Science Camp {e-Camp} is now OPEN for registration!!

e-Camp is an all-out totally fun AND educational online science camp.   Imagine sending your kids off to a really great hands-on summer science camp.  BUT, you get to decide what day and time they go.

Plus, It's designed so they can do it on their own - just set them up and they'll be engaged for hours.  So it’s perfect if you don’t have time to work with your kids, or if science isn’t really your thing.  If you want to keep your kids' learning this summer, but you also want it to be totally fun, this might just be the answer.

Last year hundreds of kids enrolled in e-Camp in less than 4 days!  This year registration for e-Camp 2013 is only open for 3 days, until this Thursday.

Also this year, Supercharged Science has introduced a brand new Advanced e-Camp for teens.  It’s supposed to keep even the “coolest” teenager interested.

So take a moment to head on over to Supercharged Science and check it out!

Glee Gum Candy Making Kit Review & Giveaway!!

Do you know what's in the gum you are chewing?  Most likely things like preservatives, artificial flavorings, colorings, or sweeteners, like aspartame.  :/

Glee Gum is different!  It contains NO artificial preservatives, flavors, colors,or sweeteners. All Glee Gum is Vegetarian, GMO Free, Additive Free, Dairy Free, Wheat Free, Gluten Free, Egg Free, Yeast Free, Nut Free, and Peanut Free.

Glee Gum is the only gum in North America made the old-fashioned way, with chicle!

Chicle is a natural tree sap harvested sustainably from the rain forests of Central America. Once all chewing gum was made with chicle, but today most gum is made entirely from synthetic stuff.

Glee is a “green” gum right down to the packaging, which is made from biodegradable, recycled cardboard.

Well I had the opportunity to try both Glee Gum and one of their fun Candy Making Kits!!  We received both the Chocolate and Gum Making Kit, but today I'm just going to talk about the Make Your Own Chewing Gum Kit.
The directions were simple and Funny Bunny and I had a lot of fun making our chewing gum.  She was surprised at what it looked like before, during, and after the process.

Included in the kit was a fun learning sheet about chewing gum and the rain forest.  You can go here to find out how chewing gum gets "From the Tree to Glee"!  It's actually a pretty interesting process...and very educational!  Educators can also find stories and lesson plans.

Thoughts of a 10-Year Old:  The two flavors we got were Peppermint and Cherry.  At first, when I looked at the little chicle pellets, I thought, "That's gum?" But it did turn out to be gum and it was pretty good, too. Once we melted the chicle, it was really sticky-gooey and hard to get out of the pan. But I think the gum itself was great and it really was gum-y.  My favorite flavor was Cherry, and though the flavor doesn't last as long as regular gum, it's definitely worth it to save the chicle trees!
