Easter Weekend Ideas

Need some ideas to help prepare your family for celebrating Easter?  Here are a few things we will be doing this weekend.

 Making Pretzels on Good Friday.  You probably already have all the ingredients in your pantry.

 Making Resurrection Rolls on Holy Saturday.  These are so easy and fun to make...and pretty yummy to eat too.  Plus it is a great way to explain the true meaning of Easter.

*  Telling the Easter Story with Resurrection Eggs.  I picked these up last Easter and we have been enjoying them.

*  Watching The Gospel of John.  This is a tradition every year.

*  Dying eggs.

*  And of course, going to church Sunday morning.

Will you be doing anything special this weekend to prepare for celebrating Easter?

Math U See: Delta Review

I am on the hunt for a new math curriculum!  Funny Bunny has been using the same curriculum since PreK but it's finally time for a change.  That's one reason I was excited when I found out I would be reviewing Math U See

Math-U-See is a comprehensive K-12 math curriculum that uses manipulatives to illustrate and teach math concepts. They strive toward “Building Understanding” by using a multi-sensory, mastery-based approach suitable for all levels and learning styles.

I received Math U See's Delta level.  Delta focuses mainly on division for single and multiple-digit numbers, along with other topics.

The Instruction Pack contains an Instruction Manual with lesson-by-lesson instructions and full solutions and a DVD with lesson-by-lesson video instruction.

The Student Pack contains the Student Workbook with lesson-by-lesson worksheets, systematic review pages, and Application & Enrichment pages as well as Tests.

I also received the Manipulative Block Set.  These blocks are used in all levels from Primer through Algebra 1, except Epsilon, and include colorful 88-piece base-10 stacking blocks.

So how did we use it and what did we think?

Starting with Lesson 1, we watched the DVD instruction together and Funny Bunny would then work on the lesson in the Student Workbook.  Each lesson includes the following:

*  Lesson Practice {A, B, C}
*  Systematic Review {D, E, F}
*  Application & Enrichment {G}

Steve Demme, author, founder, and instructor on the DVD, teaches that if the child can complete the first page in the Lesson Practice {A} with no issues, they can move on to the Systematic Review.  And if they can complete the first page in the Systematic Review {D} with no issues, they can move on again, without completing the additional pages.  Basically, if they master the concept they do not have to continue with additional work, but it's there for those who need the help.

Funny Bunny finished the following lessons for this review {completing only the first page of both the Lesson Practice and Systematic Review and the Application & Enrichment}: 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, and 16.  Delta is probably where she would have started at the beginning of this school year, so most of it has been a review and that is why we skipped around a little.

My Thoughts:  I think the DVD instruction is excellent!  Steve explains each concept very well and the instruction is short and to the point.  In fact it was done so well, I didn't have to use the Instruction Manual at all, except for checking answers.

This is the first time that I have ever used a mastery-based approach math program.  That being said, there is the Systematic Review for each lesson, so Delta is not all division.  For instance, Lesson 15D reviews standard notation, division, 4-digit addition, multiplication, and there are a couple word problems.  Other review pages cover finding the average, area, and 4-digit subtraction.  Here you can learn more about Math U See's Approach.

It is actually my understanding that Math U See has added more review and word problems to their elementary products with this latest edition.

So did this work for us?  I was hoping it would.  I'm not sure what it is.  Like I said, I loved the DVD instruction, which is something we have never had.  I was wanting more from it though.  I can't put my finger on it.  Maybe I just prefer spiral-based programs.  Regardless, I know that Math U See is the answer for many families.

Find Out More:  You can find out more online at Math U See.  The Delta Instruction Pack, which includes the Instruction Manual and DVD is $44.  The Delta Student Pack, which includes the Student Workbook and Test Booklet is $30.  The Manipulative Block Set is $38.  Math U See has a variety of free resources on their website, so make sure to check those out!  And if you are wondering where you should start your child since their levels are not necessarily by grade, you can have your them take a placement test.

My Crewmates are also reviewing Math U See, so you can check out what they think HERE.

Living and Leading Like Jesus: Good Morning Girls Bible Study

A good friend has invited me and several other ladies to participate in the Good Morning Girls Bible Study.  We are all doing to study at home and coming together each morning to discuss online.  Today is Day 1 and I already feel blessed reading what the other ladies have had to say.  I'm always amazed at how just a few verses can speak differently to so many people.

Week 1 Memory VerseThen He said to them all:  "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me." ~ Luke 9:23

affresh Cleaners Giveaway!

I've already had two giveaways this week!  Ready for another?
affresh is here to help you get your appliances clean and smelling great with budget friendly solutions to some of your hardest and most forgotten cleaning tasks.

Have a smelly washer?  Try affresh Washer Cleaner to get rid of odor and residue left behind by detergents, lint and soils

This was probably my favorite because the inside of our washer needs a cleaning.  I thought it did a good job getting the smell out and residue off the agitator.

Something Rotten in your Dishwasher? affresh Dishwasher and Disposal Cleaner removes left behind food particles and buildup that causes your dishwasher and disposal to smell like something died in there.

This was great too.  You would think a dishwasher would be clean since that is all it is made to do, but dirty dishes to get left in it for days before it runs.

Can’t get your cooktop clean enough? Remove even the toughest baked-on residue with the affresh Cooktop Cleaner and pad.

This worked really good on the spots where food dried on the burners.  It worked much better than what I normally use.

Crumbs and spills left behind? Safely remove everyday food spills and stuck-on residue from inside your microwave and refrigerator, plus your favorite small appliances with affresh Kitchen & Appliance Cleaner without the need to rinse after.

Smudgy Stainless Steel? affresh Stainless Steel Cleaner removes fingerprints, smudges and residue left behind from daily use, and leaves your stainless steel shinier than ever.

Bows 'N Ties: Puccini's New Repp-Stripe Collection Review and GIVEAWAY!

Hubby started a new job in January, and guess what he now has to wear to work every . single . day?  You guessed it...a tie!!  When you wear them everyday, they are like a shirt, you don't want to repeat the same one that often.  So we have been on the hunt for ties.  If you haven't priced them lately, I can tell you that they are expensive.  More expensive than the shirt it's worn with sometimes.

I was so happy to find Bows N' Ties and Puccini's New Repp-Stripe Collection!!  Bows N' Ties offers the highest quality neck and bow ties at unbelievable prices!  On top of that they offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee policy with a 30-day "no questions asked" return policy.

Hubby received the Grass Green and White Necktie from Puccini's New Repp-Sripe Collection, which was created for the spring and summer season 2013.

It is now available in these 10 color combinations:

* Navy & Light Blue
* Cherry Red & White
* Merlot Red & Sky Blue
* Brick Red & Midnight Blue
* Platinum Silver & White
* Truffle Brown & Powder Blue
* Grass Green & White
* Aqua Blue & White
* Eggplant Purple & Rose Pink
* Summer Yellow & White

A perfect blend of traditional repp-stripe design, one that is typically associated with conservative regimental ties, and bold/bright colors, this assortment of ties will infuse some fresh air into any man’s wardrobe. Featuring a modern width of 3.25 inches, this collection is perfect for any modern cut suit featuring narrow to medium-width lapels. Best of all is the price on these pieces.

Hubby wore this tie to work and he called me that afternoon with some news.  He said that more than one person complimented him on his tie!   So of course I asked him if he normally gets compliments on his ties, and he said no, this was the first time!  How cool is that?!

In both of our opinions, the tie was well made and definitely worth the price!  Hubby thought it had a nice texture and it made a nice, crisp knot.

Find Out More:  You can find out more online at Bows 'N TiesPuccini's New Repp-Sripe Collection sells for just $9.90 each!!  They offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee policy with a 30-day "no questions asked" return policy.
