A Sense of the Resurrection: An Easter Experience for Families

If you are looking for some fun and meaningful activities leading up to Easter for your entire family, take a look at A Sense of the Resurrection: An Easter Experience for Families

A Sense of the Resurrection: An Easter Experience for Families contains 12 fun, hands-on, easy, meaningful activities to help your kids come face to face with the Easter story.

In my opinion, just 12 activities is perfect because it's a busy time of year with school and other events.  The lessons are short and sweet and recommended for all ages. So you could use it during the last 12 days leading up to Easter or spread it out to a few days a week through the whole Lenten season.

The activities are really neat, like baking bread for the Last Supper and feet washing, which creates great memories for families.

The booklet does touch on the subject of Jesus' death and resurrection so Amanda has included a helpful page about how to best talk to your children about this hard to tackle subject.

This simple eBook includes printables, Scriptures, and specific conversation and starting points so you and your kids can get a sense of the resurrection

Find Out More: A Sense of the Resurrection: An Easter Experience for Families is available as a downloadable eBook for just $9.99. But wait...use code OURHOMESCHOOL for 20% through 4/15/17!!

Jesus Today Review and Giveaway!

Jesus Today, by the bestselling author of Jesus Calling, is a wonderful book of devotions for kids. Each devotion is based on Scripture and is written as though Jesus is speaking directly to you and your child.

This book is great for ages 6-10 and easy for children to read on their own. Each of the 150 devotions is laid out on a two-page spread, one page with the devotion and one with Bible verses.  The hardbound book is adorable and the pages are slick with large print.

The author is clear with the message that Jesus died for our sins and that we can ask Him to be our Savior. Jesus Today was written to remind children that Jesus is with us, by our side, all the time.

This sweet devotional for kids is the perfect gift for any child.  I would highly recommend it. We already own Jesus Calling: 365 Devotions for Kids, which is more for ages 8-12, so this is great for the youngers.

Find Out More: You can find out more online at Amazon.  Jesus Today sells for just $11.76 for the hardcover book or $9.99 for the Kindle version.  You can also get more information on Facebook and Twitter.

Passport2Purity Getaway Kit Review

It's the summer before Junior High.  Yes, we homeschool, but starting in August Funny Bunny will be in a co-op with other 7th graders and she will move up to Youth at church with 7th-12th graders.  I want her to be prepared and equipped for whatever situations she may face.

I had been researching the best resource to use when I came across Passport2Purity by Family Life. Passport2Purity equips parents with a step-by-step God centered program that ensures a life-changing weekend with your preteen.

Now my daughter is very resistant to "growing up".  She wants to stay young forever and still loves to "play" with her dolls.  I'm very thankful for that!  I recognize, however, that she is living in a very different world than I grew up in.  Regardless of her resistance to hearing about how her body is changing, boys, dating, and peer pressure, she needs to know about it. We had already discussed a few things, but there were still some very important topics I had avoided until now.

Passport2Purity covers it all and takes the pressure off the parents.

The Getaway Kit includes:

* 1 Tour Guide for the parent
* 1 Travel Journal for the preteen including 25 follow-up devotions
* 8 CDs containing 5 sessions, scripture memory songs and downloadable MP3s

The Sessions are as follows:

* Session 1: Beginning the Journey - Challenges, Traps, and Choices
* Session 2: Running with the Herd - Friendships and Peer Pressure
* Session 3: Ready for an Upgrade? - Changes to Him, Changes to Her
* Session 4: Destination: Le Pure - Setting Boundaries
* Session 5: Crossing the Date Line - Seeing Dating Differently

A Friday night to Saturday night is recommended to complete the program, but due to our schedule, I planned our trip out a little differently.  I booked one night at a nearby hotel and our trip lasted from a Wednesday afternoon to Thursday afternoon.  We listened to the CDs together, she worked on her journal, we talked, completed the projects, and we shopped, ate dinner out, and spent a late night watching a movie and painting nails.

Below you can see Funny Bunny is coloring in her journal while we listen to the CDs.  Notice the chocolate bar and Vitamin Water.  Two of her favorite things! The morning concluded with breakfast and a Double Chocolaty Chip Frappuccino. :)

We had a fun time, but there was definitely some resistance, especially during Session 3.  Once that was behind us though, it was smooth sailing.  We had a lot of great conversation and it is a time that we will always remember.

To learn more about Passport2Purity, watch the video below.

Find out More:  You can find out more about Passport2Purity online at Family Life.  The Passport2Purity Getaway Kit is $39.99 but I'm excited to share that my readers are able to get 25% off with the code PASSPORT through 8/31/15.

You can also find them on Facebook and Twitter.

Apologia's iWitness Series Review

Apologia Review

We have had the opportunity the past couple months to read and review three books from Apologia Educational Ministries.

These three new apologetics resources are part of the iWitness Series.  iWitness Biblical Archaeology, Old Testament iWitness, and New Testament iWitness.

This iWitness series help children get answers to questions about the Bible, historical places, people, and events.  Each book digs deep to prove the truth.

Doug Powell, who has a masters degree in Christian apologetics, is the author of these interesting and interactive books.  He describes each book as a "stack of documents the reader has to make sense of as if they’re doing their own investigation".

Apologia Review
iWitness Biblical Archaeology digs into the history of the Bible, from The Flood to The Burial Shroud of Jesus.  Did The Flood really happen?  Where is Noah's Ark located?  This book really delves into how we can answer the questions and more.

Reading about the Dead Sea Scrolls and how and where they were found was interesting, as well as the section about Jesus' World.

Pictures of Peter's house and a Galilee boat are just a few of the many pictures that really bring the story alive!

Apologia Review

Old Testament iWitness explains how the Old Testament is different from the Hebrew Bible.  It inquires into who wrote the books of the Old Testament and how they were collected.

From reviewing old manuscripts to looking at the prophets, this book takes the reader on an interesting and thoughtful journey.

I thought the sections on the major and minor prophets were especially interesting.  Each is listed with their name, dates, and purpose, along with pictures.

Apologia Review

The New Testament iWitness I think is my favorite and most interesting of the three books.  It uncovers by sorting through all the information. Who wrote it and how do we know?  How was it handed down?  Were there any books left out and why?

This books investigates canon criteria, church fathers, The Gospel, rejected books, and recovered texts.

One of the most interesting sections for me was about the differences in the copies. Sometimes scribes made intentional errors because they thought something needed correcting.

My Thoughts:  Overall I think these three books are well presented and visually stimulating for both child and adult.  Funny Bunny and I sat together and I read them aloud.  She is 11 years old, and although some of the topics were a little confusing to her, she understood and appreciated most of it.  We enjoyed looking at the beautiful pictures.

Find Out More:  You can find out more online at Apologia Educational Ministries. iWitness Biblical ArchaeologyOld Testament iWitness, and New Testament iWitness are just $14 each and are recommended for ages 11 and up.

You can also find Apologia on Facebook, Twitter, Google +, and Pinterest.

Wizzy Gizmo Fast Track Bible Pack Review

Wizzy Gizmo Review

Wizzy Gizmo?  It's a catchy name, but I'll be honest, until a few weeks ago I had never heard of them.  So who, or what, is Wizzy Gizmo?

According to their website, Wizzy Gizmo is a genius inventor who makes fun and fantastic gizmos, hence the interesting name. :)  Not only that, but he loves God and loves to explore the Bible.

So Wizzy Gizmo is a series of Bible books, audio dramas, and flashcards for kids. We've had the opportunity to review one of their products, the Fast Track Bible Pack: New Testament cards.

Wizzy Gizmo Review

The New Testament Series is a 27 cards set, each card representing a book in the New Testament.  The cards are printed on the front and back on thick card stock, and are a large 5" x 9".

The front of each card contains a New Testament book summary, book theme, number of chapters, author, and date written.  The back contains an outline, key chapters, key passages, key doctrines, and key people.

You can click the picture below to see the first card, which is for the first book in the New Testament, the book of Matthew.

Included with the set is also a card which lists each of the 27 cards by book name, theme, date, author, and number of chapters.

The Fast Track Bible Pack: New Testament cards are great for all ages and can be used in so many ways.

* Younger children can start slow by just reading the summary {or having the summary read to them} one day and selecting a key passage another day. That can continue until they are familiar with the book and/or verse.

* Early elementary age children can work toward memorizing the author, numbers of chapters, and date of the writing.

* Older elementary age children can continue on to memorize key chapters and/or passages.

* Middle school students can strive to memorize the outline and key people, as well as orally narrate the passage.

The cards can be easily hole punched and placed in a binder or on large key rings for easy storage and flipping.

Who can benefit by using these cards?

* Homeschool Families
* Children's Ministries
* Vacation Bible Schools
* Sunday Schools
* Christian Schools
* Bible Bee Participants

My Thoughts:  I think the The Fast Track Bible Pack: New Testament cards are a great tool for children of all ages.  Because they are so versatile, parents and teachers can determine the best ways to use them for their student(s).  I like the large size and sturdiness of the cards, as well as the different colors on the back to distinguish the different sections.

Thoughts of an 11-Year Old:  The Wizzy Gizmo cards will be helpful for flash cards and memorizing the New Testament. For instance, the Matthew card says that "Matthew was excited about the Kingdom of Heaven". So as a quiz, you could say, "Who was excited about the kingdom of Heaven?" and they are good for little intros to Bible first-timers.

Find Out More:  You can find out more online at Wizzy Gizmo.  The Fast Track Bible Pack: New Testament cards are only $14.99 and is great for all ages. You can also save up to 10% off your purchase by sharing on multiple social media sites.

You can also find Wizzy Gizmo on Facebook, Twitter,  Pinterest, Google+, and Vimeo.

Young Women of Faith Bible, NIV Review

 Review by Funny Bunny:

The Young Women of Faith Bible (NIV) is a study Bible just for girls! It has many cool and helpful features such as the Journal Pages, the If I Were There pages, the Memory Verse pages, and more!

Now was a great time to get this Bible, as I am currently studying the book of Romans. The side notes help me understand the passages better, the journal pages help me relate to other girls my age, and the If I Were There pages show how I might feel if I were in a Biblical person's position.

This Bible helps me focus not only on the well-known Bible stories, but on my very own personal story! It helps me learn more about my relationship with God, how to serve Him, and ways other disciples were devoted to following in His ways. With the Good News in tow, I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me! This Bible helps me learn more about Him and what He wants.

This particular Bible is probably, in my opinion, for ages 9-12. However, older children may like it, and younger children can have fun with it by having their moms read it to them.

Speaking of moms, the NIV Woman of Faith Study Bible is connected to the Young Woman of Faith Study Bible, so you and your mom can share in God's Word together!

I really think this is a fantastic Bible, with easy-to-read type, good study tips and passages, and lots of fun to read - alone, or with mom!

From the Publisher:

The study Bible that’s just for girls! This Bible is filled with engaging features that will help you learn more about yourself and your relationship with God. Designed to encourage you to develop a habit of studying God's Word, you’ll discover how relevant the Bible can be to your everyday life. Weekly studies and many of the side notes are also linked to the women's study Bible, the NIV Women of Faith Study Bible, allowing you and your mom to share God's Word together. Features include: Weekly Bible Studies, Side Notes, Journal Pages, Memory Verses, I Believe Statements of Faith, and If I Were There Bible Stories.

Find Out More:  You can find out more online at Zondervan.  The Young Women of Faith Bible, NIV is available with a hardcover and is $29.99.
