Time4Writing Review

My daughter LOVES to write! She has been writing stories since she was in Kindergarten.  Now, two years later, she writes books with multiple chapters, sequels, and types up stories on the computer.  So when I heard that I was going to get the chance to review a writing product, I was excited!

Time4Writing is a product offered by Time4Learning.  It is a series of eight-week online writing classes taught and facilitated by experienced writing teachers.  Time4Writing has courses for elementary, middle, and high school students at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.  Since my daughter is in second grade, we went with the elementary level.  From there, we had a choice of the following:

Grammar (basic)
Sentence Structure (basic)
Paragraph Writing (intermediate)
Essay Writing (advanced)

Each course has a description and there are tools on their site to help you select which is the best course for your child.  Since my daughter LOVES writing, and since we have already touched on grammar at home, I decided to take a chance and start her with Paragraph Writing.  Course objectives can be found HERE

When you first log on to their website you are able to read some helpful information to get you started, including 4-week and 8-week suggested schedules.  Each lesson begins with a short video explaining that week's concept.  For instance, week one is on The Topic Sentence.  Each week includes a mixture of interactive lessons, quizzes, and games, which all receive immediate feedback, so you can move directly to the next activity.  There are also writing assignments, which require the teacher's feedback and the child's revision before moving on.

This worried me a little because up to this point, she has never actually been graded for her work by an outside teacher.  At the time of this review though, with five weeks completed, her grade is 98.92%

They also have a section for their grades, which contains each lesson they have completed, their grades, and all corrections and feedback given for that assignment.

My Thoughts: I like the outline of the course and how each lessons builds on the one before it.  It is a good start to learning about paragraphs.  It was also nice that she could work on her assignments whenever she wanted, as we were not required to be online at a certain time.  My daughter liked being able to go online to complete her work and she always anticipated the feedback from her teacher.

At first I thought submitting work was confusing.  There is no "submit" button so we weren't even sure if the work was submitted, until the next day when it was graded.  There is also no feature to save your assignment and work on it later in the day, which would have been nice for some of the longer paragraphs.  I also thought the grading was too easy.  I really thought she was going to get graded harder on some assignments, but only one or two things would come back wrong, giving her a high score.  Maybe it is just me, but I would have been harder.

Thoughts of a 7-Year Old: It was very fun and it made me think a lot.  I like that the grades were fair and my teacher showed me everything that was wrong.

Find Out MoreTime4Writing offers their 8-week courses for $99.  They also offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee.  If their program does not satisfy your family’s needs for any reason, you can either select another course or cancel your membership during the first 14 days.

My Crewmates are also reviewing Time4Writing, so you can check out what they think HERE.
