Apologia: Who Is God? Review

Who Is God? (And Can I Really Know Him?) is Volume 1 of 4 in the "What We Believe Series" by Apologia.  It is a Biblical Worldview of God and Truth.

I feel blessed that we were given the opportunity to review this wonderful book.  In today's world there are so many distractions pulling us away from God.  Many things on TV, online, and in the world appear to be true, but unfortunately, most are not.  It is sometimes hard for adults to tell the difference between the two, so how do we help our children decide what is true and what is not?  This book equips them with the tools they need.

Who Is God? (And Can I Really Know Him?) is broken down into ten lessons. Each lesson is then broken down into smaller, more manageable topics and stories.  The authors have included a helpful section in the Introduction on how to use the book, with a section on how to include notebooking, and a detailed description on the lesson structure.  They have also included a very helpful sample lesson plan, which is based on a schedule of two weeks per lesson, three days per week.  Here you can view all of Lesson One.

Included with the purchase of this book are optional, FREE online teacher helps and downloadable files that include:

* Overviews of the lesson’s main idea as well as each topic
* Key themes and lesson objectives
* Vocabulary words and memory verses
* Suggested activities for use with the lesson
* Child-directed discussion questions for each topic covered
* Lists of Bible stories and references that address the key themes
* Recommended reading list for deeper study

My Thoughts:  As I said before, I think this is a wonderful book!  It is recommended for children ages 6-14, and since our daughter is just 7, we have been going through the lessons slower than the schedule suggests.  That is one things that is nice about it.  It is laid out so that children at different ages can go at their own pace.  Older children can read it alone and younger children can work on it with their parents, as she is.  I am also enjoying how the "Big Idea" of each lesson is followed up by an interesting story that children can relate to.

Thoughts of a 7-Year Old: Who is God? is a good book because it talks about what is and is not true. The mini stories tell you about the truth, and why you should build your life on Him, not slippery sand. What I like about this book is that it tells you that God is the one. There's no one else then Him.
