Chocolate Project Pack Review

Lapbooks are a great way for families to do unit studies and have some hands on fun with a topic.  In the past, children would have to do all the work to put together a lapbook.  Not anymore!  In the Hands of a Child has now published over 400 project packs and continues to release new ones on a regular basis.

The Chocolate Project Pack, for grades 3-8, is a ready-to-assemble, hands-on unit, including reproducibles.  Each of these project packs start with an explanation of how it is set up.  This is especially nice for those who are working with these for the first time.  We have actually completed a few, but it is a nice refresher.

Another feature of these packs that I like is that they can be adapted to fit the needs of your child(ren).  I younger child may need more help writing whereas an older child can do it all on their own.  Either way, they are great for all ages!

My Thoughts:  The Chocolate Project Pack was fun to complete.  It takes the child through the history of chocolate, the cacao tree, and the cocoa bean.  It was pretty interesting learning about different cultures and how they used chocolate.  Of course our favorite part was learning how chocolate is made and the different types.  While writing out the four different kinds of chocolate, my daughter said, "I can smell it already."  Let's just say that by the end of the unit study, we were ready to make some of our own, which was fine, because they included a few recipes too.

Here are some pictures of our completed lapbook:

Thoughts of a 7-Year Old:  It was really fun and I learned all about chocolate. It was so interesting I wanted to do more, but our lapbook was too full for anything else. It was so cool and exciting to learn about one of my favorite foods!
