6 Pence Productions Review

Our daughter loves to listen to stories on CD.  We keep them in the car and she would much rather listen to a story than music.  Stories on CD are great for long car trips and usually keep us entertained and occupied.

The day we received two CDs from 6 Pence Productions we were both very interested and excited to check them out.  These CDs are unique in that they are for kids BY kids.

The first CD, The Fairytale Collection, includes five classic children's fairytales, all told by children, and great for ages 3 to 8.  The five stories include: Three Billy Goats Gruff, Cinderella and Friends, The Emperor's New Clothes, The Three Little Pigs Meet the Big Bad Wolves, and the Princess and the Pea.  These fairytales are not quite the same as you remember though, each one having its own twists and turns.  We both enjoyed listening to how each was told and we laughed at their silliness.  We have listened to them more than once already.

The second CD we received, Princess Reform School, is actually a 1 1/2 hour story, again all told by children, and recommended for ages 6-13.  The story is about some princesses who are sent to reform school for not being "princess-like".

It is a cute story that takes you into the lives of these reform school princesses, their struggles, joys, and adventures.

My Thoughts:  I think these CDs are great and I love that they are told by children!  The cast did an absolutely wonderful job!  My favorite out of the two is The Fairytale Collection.  I like the different spin on the stories and think they are great for children of all ages.

I enjoyed Princess Reform School as well, but I think some children may not be ready for the storyline until age 8 or 9.  It goes quite fast and keeping track of who is who was sometimes difficult for both of us, at least in the beginning.  Some topics introduced that parents may want to know about include taming dragons, meditation, and one girl's journey of self-acceptance (because her dad left her and her sister when they were younger), causing her to be mean to the other girls throughout the story.  Of course, it has a happy ending and was enjoyable to listen to.

Thoughts of a 7-Year Old:  I like The Fairytale Collection best.  My favorite story is The Emperor's New Clothes.  I'd say The Fairytale Collection is both of our favorites. They are good stories and fun to listen to on long car trips!

Find Out More:  Both CDs are available at 6 Pence ProductionsThe Fairytale Collection sells for $14.95 and Princess Reform School is $19.95.  You can listen to sample tracks of the CDs here
