Fern Valley is a book about animal children who grow up learning the lessons of life because they are good for the young animals to know when they grow up. There are 12 mini stories and I enjoyed The Surprise the most. It is about Betsy Woolrich who lives with her grandparents. Because of her parents traveling, Betsy gets positively miserable and longs to see them. Now it is her birthday and Mama and Papa tell her that they have a surprise. On her party day, the doorbell rings. Who could it be? The mailman? But no, it’s Betsy’s surprise! Lo and behold, Mama and Papa step into the house, wave their hooves excitedly, and shout “Surprise!” Between Mama and Papa, Betsy is as happy as ever.
I enjoyed Fern Valley because
there are always happy endings. Fern Valley not only taught the little animals lessons,
but it taught me some things too and I love it!
