Pearson Homeschool enVisionMATH Review

Photobucket

Are you still trying to decide on curriculum for next year?  If so, you may want to take a closer look at Pearson Homeschool

Pearson Homeschool offers curriculum for grades PK though 12th.  Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies are all available beginning in 1st grade.

PhotobucketWe were given the opportunity to try out and review enVisionMATH for 4th grade.

enVisionMATH uses problem based interactive learning and visual learning to deepen conceptual understanding.

Grade 4 hardbound edition, organized by math topics contains daily lessons that provide a Visual Learning Bridge, teaching math concepts step-by-step with purposeful, sequential illustrations while connecting interactive learning with guided and independent skill and problem solving practice.

The homeschool bundle I received included the hardcover student book, student game CD, and teacher CD.

The student book is broken into 20 units.  Here you can see the Table of Contents.   Each unit is then broken down further into individual lessons.  The lessons then follow the same pattern:  Introduction of the concept, one or more examples, guided practice, independent practice, and finally, problem solving.

The Teacher's CD is awesome!  It includes planning information to prepare each topic, specific lessons within each topic, and a ton of printable material.  You are able to print out worksheets and tests for every lesson.  You decide on how much or how little your child may need, based on how much they need to review each concept.

The MindPoint Quiz Show CD is a game that will assess the child's understanding and track her performance.

So how did we use it?  I would introduce the topic to Funny Bunny and we would read through the  examples and guided practice.  She would then complete the problems in the independent practice section and I would print out a worksheet with a few more problems to reinforce the concept.  At the end of the lesson I would print out one last worksheet as "homework".

My Thoughts:  I have been pleased with Pearson Homeschool products {I also reviewed Reading Street last year}.  Funny Bunny was really not too excited to start doing more math, but she seemed to like the flow of enVisionMATH.  If she had a good grasp of the concept, I would stop when I could tell she was ready to move on.

I really love the Teacher CD!  It assisted me in leading the lessons and I could use it as much or as little as I needed.  It's also great for larger families because you can use the worksheets over and over again.

Find Out More:  Find out more online at Pearson Homeschool.  The grade 4 enVisionMATH bundle is $99.99 but you can purchase each piece separately on their website.

My Crewmates are also talking about Pearson Homeschool, so you can check out what they think about enVisionMATH and their other products HERE.
