The book is called The Case of the Missing Sock, and is part of the Crypto-Capers series.
Here is her review:
The Crypto-Capers, Max and Mia Holmes, their friend Morris, and their helper Granny solve mysteries and crimes. On the way, they find clues called cryptograms that help them solve cases. A cryptogram is a mixed up puzzle. For instance:
A P P X
It goes like this first of all. An E turns into a B and so forth. So A becomes L, double P's are double O's, and the X becomes K.
L O O K
The Case of the Missing Sock tells the story of when the Crypto-Capers have to look for a sock with a valuable pair of glasses in it. Is it the man's wife? Is it the man who owns the Sunny Hill Country Club? Or is it Mr. Delacomb himself? Find out in The Crypto-Capers and the Case of the Missing Sock. I think the interesting part is that you use the key to crack the codes.
I like this book because it is very hard to wait for the end. It was a good book and I think that if you like mysteries and if you like anticipation, then I know you will enjoy it. I am looking forward to getting the next book in the series.
My Thoughts: Although I personally did not read the book, my daughter just loved it! My husband and I helped her with the first cryptogram to get her started and we like how it gets the child involved in the story and really makes them think. The reader must help the detectives solve the case by solving these various puzzles and cryptograms. I also like that the puzzles after book 1 become more challenging, so we are looking forward to reading more in the series.
Find Out More: You can find out more and purchase The Case of the Missing Sock and others in the series from the author's website. There she talks a little about the cryptograms and how to use the cipher key to solve them. The books are great for a 4th grade reading level and up.
