The Curiosity Files: Blue-Footed Booby

Have you heard about The Curiosity Files yet?  Have I piqued your curiosity at all?  Well, the Old Schoolhouse has created this interestingly curious new series.

Professor Ana Lyze and her research team specialize in the obscure, abnormal, and bizarre. Their goal is to educate children about subjects they'd never find otherwise, from strange insects, to rare diseases, beautiful gems, and even birds like the Blue-Footed Booby.

We were lucky to have received The Curiosity Files: The Blue-Footed Booby.  Our daughter has really enjoyed learning interesting facts about these birds.  I not only like that she is learning about this unique bird, but the unit explores other subjects, such as math, writing, geography, and more.  Each Curiosity Files unit includes:

* Bible study and memory verses
* Math, history, and geography investigations
* Literature and suggested book list
* Writing, spelling, and vocabulary activities
* Beautiful copywork pages (manuscript and cursive)
* Science observations, projects, and experiments
* Discussion questions
* Art, crafts, drawing, and coloring pages
* Lapbook and notebook pages
* Internet resources and video links
* Complete answer key

The unit starts out by telling you all about the blue-footed booby.  For instance, did you know that the blue-footed booby is considered an evolution stumper because it defies the theory of evolution?  Pretty interesting, huh?  Or that they are actually known for being very tame?  Some other interesting topics include:

* Why the funny looking blue feet?
* What is so unusual about this seabird’s mating practices?
* What things are working against it's survival, and yet it has thrived?
* What great truths can we grasp from the Bible?

My Thoughts:  I think that The Curiosity Files: The Blue-Footed Booby is an excellent unit study.  My daughter has completed much of this unit already and I like that each page involves a different activity or lesson (with 98 pages to choose from).  There was also a nature study portion and we enjoyed going outside to bird watch.

Thoughts of a 7-Year Old:  I liked it and I want to do it when my mom tells me to. It is very fun for me, and I am looking forward to getting another one of the Curiosity Files!

Find Out More:  You can purchase The Curiosity Files: The Blue-Footed Booby at The Old Schoolhouse Store as an e-book for $6.95.  If you'd like, you can view a sample as well.  The Curiosity Files offer many other titles as well, which you can find here.  And if you think your children may enjoy them all, you can purchase the 9 Pack Bundle for $46.  These unit studies are great for ages 8-13 (but can be adapted for younger children) and all e-books published by The Old Schoolhouse Magazine come with a 7-day, 100% money-back guarantee!

My Crewmates are also reviewing The Curiosity Files, so you can check out what they think HERE.

I've never heard of the Curiosity Files before! I think I learn something new every time I visit your blog which is great! This looks like a great resource. BTW, I purchased the Roman Town DVD that you reviewed awhile ago and bought it on sale when your blog directed readers to the sale. My kids have used it a little and we are still trying to get familiar with it. Thanks!
