Weekly Wrap-Up: Third Grade #3

Today I want to tell you a little about what we have been learning in our Heart of Dakota book, Bigger Hearts for His Glory, and I want to focus on our Bible lessons.

The focus throughout Bigger Hearts for His Glory is on Proverbs.  We learn a new Bible verse from Proverbs each week along with a Godly character trait.  Each day I have our daughter copy part of the verse in her notebook so by the end of the week she (hopefully) has it memorized.  I have her copy it in her best cursive so she is not only learning the verse, but practicing her writing and spelling as well.

Week One we read Proverbs 2:3-5 and learned about "Persistence."

"indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God."

{If you are persistent in calling out to God, what will you find?  What happens if you give up?}

Week Two we read Proverbs 11:2 and learned about "Humility."

"When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom."

{How can we show humility?  Why is it important to stay away from being prideful?}

I love how the character traits are used with these verses.  It really helps to apply them to our everyday lives.  These are some great lessons, not only for our children, but for us as well.

Thanks for joining Our Homeschool Reviews and for more Weekly Wrap-Up, this week I am linked up with Kris over at Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers.

I really like HOD's Bible portion. We are going to use that part of it for this next year. My dd did not like Eggleson's book and since it's over 1/2 the year, we decided to move on from their history. I do love how it's set up though and hope that maybe next year we could return to it. :)

Hey Lisa. I can see why she may not have liked the history book. Sometimes the wording is a little weird and it can trip me up and that makes it hard to read out loud. Anytime there is something that I don't think was that clear, I try to rephrase it in my own words. That seems to help.
