YWAM Publishing Review

We were given the opportunity to review a YWAM Publishing ebook, Jim Elliot: One Great Purpose, from the Christian Heroes: Then and Now series.

For those of you who weren't aware {like me}, YWAM, which was founded in 1960, stands for Youth With A Mission.  They are a large interdenominational Christian ministry with 17,000 volunteer staff based in nearly 900 locations in over 140 countries.

I not only received the ebook, Jim Elliot: One Great Purpose, but also received the Unit Study Curriculum Guide to go along with the book.

So Funny Bunny and I snuggled up and I read aloud from my iPad.  We had both heard of Jim Elliot's story but not in any detail.  We were immediately drawn in and could hardly put it down. It was exciting to read about his adventure and his determination.

From their website:

Jim and Pete turned to see the Auca men, their deadly spears raised, running toward Nate, Ed, and Roger. Jim stood in the river, his hand on his pistol. Should he defend himself? He already knew the answer. Each man had promised the others that he would not save himself by killing those they had sought out in Jesus' name.

Jim Elliot and his coworkers surrendered their lives in Ecuador's jungle, trusting that their sacrifice would not be in vain. Decades later, this dramatic event has challenged countless Christians to live with one great purpose: to bring the gospel to those who have never heard. (1927-1956).

This best-selling, missionary biography series - Christian Heroes: Then & Now - chronicles the exciting, challenging, and deeply touching true stories of ordinary men and women whose trust in God accomplished extraordinary exploits for His kingdom and glory.

We used the Unit Study Curriculum Guide along the way, which covers many areas including geography, social studies, history, and world missions.

The Unit Study Curriculum Guide includes and lot of great information and ideas...much more than any person could use, which is nice because you can pick and choose what you want!

We mainly focused on the scripture memorization, chapter questions, vocabulary terms, and geography, but there is so much more.  Enough in fact, that I think you could take a whole 9 weeks exploring all the topics.  Wouldn't it be a great idea to study several Christian Heroes through the year and still be able to touch on so many school subjects?!

Thoughts of a 10-Year Old:  The Jim Elliot book was extremely exciting and full of suspense.  We could hardly stop reading!  The Unit Study was fun to do and it had us look up words in the story that we didn't know the meaning of!  The Jim Elliot study was really fun and it made me want to know about other missionaries!

Find Out More:  You can find out more online at YWAM PublishingJim Elliot: One Great Purpose is just $6.99 and available in paperback, Nook edition or Kindle edition.   The Unit Study Curriculum Guide is only $7.49.  This book is recommended for ages 10 and up.

My Crewmates are also reviewing YWAM Publishing, so you can check out what they think HERE.
