I have purchased Evan-Moor products in the past but this is the first time I have looked through their Daily Word Problems workbook.
We received Daily Word Problems Grade 2 Math. I thought that since we use a non-traditional math program, this would give some practical math practice and I could see how our daughter is doing with math word problems on her grade level.
This workbook includes:
* addition and subtraction facts
* multiplication facts
* 2- and 3-digit addition and subtraction without regrouping
* 2-digit addition and subtraction with regrouping
* counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s
* telling time
* money
* fractions
* reading and interpreting graphs and charts
It also includes:
* 36 weekly sections
* one- and two-step problems on Monday through Thursday
* a more extensive Friday format which may require multiple steps and a chart or graph
Now to be honest, our daughter already knows all of these concepts, and when I received the workbook, it looked rather easy, and I was afraid that it would be too easy.
But I had to remember that this is a workbook on WORD problems, and although telling me the answer to 3 x 2 may be easy, taking the words in a word problem and translating them into an equation can sometimes be challenging.
My Thoughts: My daughter has now completed 7 weeks of problems and I think both my assessments were correct. Although most problems have been easy for her, she has had to think and decide what the problem is asking. Does she add, subtract, or multiply? Some problems include numbers that are not even relevant to the solution. I like that she has to take the time to think through the problems. I also like that they are "daily" word problems. All the child has to complete is one-a-day. I think this workbook can be a good addition to any math curriculum. Word problems, even simple ones, make children think.
Thoughts of a 7-Year Old: I think they are sort of hard and once in a while I get one wrong. It depends on the questions, as the front is easier and it slowly progresses as you get farther in the book.

I think the EM Daily Word Problems and Daily Math books are really good too! :-)

I really like EM's Daily Math and Daily Word Problems. Their Daily Geography is also good for a quick review of math reading basics.
We use these on Fridays for a change of pace from our regular work, while still having something of substance to do.

I was reading on the back cover today all the subjects they offer. I didn't even realize it. I think I've only seen the math. The geography sounds interesting.
Great review. I love most of the products Timberdoodle offers.
Thanks for the clear info! I need to do something with my daughter! I am going to look into this more!
Thanks so much!
Oh good, I hope it works out. I really like the word problem book and will continue to purchase them!
