Wordless Wednesday: Piano Pieces

Since Funny Bunny will no longer play for anyone else but me, and I've been warned not to post any videos of her playing {which we just started taking}, here are a few of the piano pieces she is working on right now. :)

G.A. Henty Audio Drama: Under Drake’s Flag Review

We love listening to audio CDs in the car! It passes the time away and it's always fun to find one that really captures our attention, especially mine. Under Drake's Flag, by Heirloom Audio Productions, did just that!

Under Drake's Flag is two hours of fast moving, non-stop adventure, great for the entire family! Adapted from the book, Under Drake's Flag, by G.A. Henty, the story is about two boys and their adventures with Sir Francis Drake on the high seas.

The tri-fold CD case comes with 2 CDs and a beautiful 14-page study guide and copy of Sir Francis Drake's Prayer. The Study Guide is an excellent tool for parents to use with their children, to help them understand the story line and principles.

Each set of questions in the Study Guide had three parts:

Listening Well - basic comprehension questions
Thinking Further - deeper questions about the characters and their intentions
Defining Words - finding the meaning of words to help better understand the story

At the end of the Study Guide there are three short Bible Studies on Godly Character:

Bible Study I: Godly Character
Bible Study II: True Manhood
Bible Study III: Confessing Christ

My Thoughts: We listened to Under Drake's Flag while in the car back and forth to dance and running errands. The stories are exciting and kept our attention, but what I love more is the message! The two boys, Ned and Gerald, are strong Godly characters. When they are tested, they stay strong in their faith. This is an exciting and powerful audio drama, for boys and girls alike!

Thoughts of an 11-Year Old: Under Drake's Flag was about a boy, Ned, who is invited on Sir Francis Drake's ship in replacement of a sick crew-member. After he is aboard, he meets Gerald, a fellow deck-swabbing boy, and the adventures are just beginning!

Along the way, the two friends save a young girl, are shipwrecked, bomb enemies, hide in the forest with the Africans, and are put in prison - all while maintaining their faith for the one who keeps them safe!

I liked Under Drake's Flag because the story was extremely interesting, and it also had great moral values for kids and adults to really live by. The whole family would get a kick out of this audio. I really liked it!

Find Out More: You can find out more online at Heirloom Audio Productions. Under Drake's Flag is a 2-CD audio. It includes two hours of non-stop adventure and is great for ages 6 to adult. The instant access MP3 download, which also includes an eStudy Guide and printable copy of Drake's Prayer, is just $20. The 2 CD Set is $29.95 plus $6.95 shipping. As bonuses, the set includes the MP3 download, eStudy Guide, Soundtrack MP3 download, and printable copy of Drake's prayer.

You can also fine Under Drake's Flag on Facebook.

Homeschooling with Heart of Dakota - Week 2

Heart of Dakota: Resurrection to Reformation - Unit 2: Early Church Councils & Creeds

Reading About History: Still reading Peril and Peace and enjoying it.

History Storytime: Almost finished with Forbidden Gates. This is a really good book!

History Project: This week Funny Bunny had to make a stained glass window. This project was a little more time consuming but it turned out really neat!!

History Notebook: This page of her history notebook shows the timeline for the week, a postcard she wrote about Alexandria, and a written narration on Augustine.

Shakespeare: For the past two weeks Funny Bunny has been reading The Tempest. Each reading is split between two weeks and then she has to color a picture and copy a quote from the play.

Science Project/Experiment: She read about Eclipses.

Independent Reading:

Wordless Wednesday: God's Creation

I was looking for pictures on my phone to post and this one stuck out. Hubby and I were on a weekend away and I snapped this as we walked across a bridge. It's reminding me this morning of God and His beautiful creations!

Menu Planning and Plant Based Eating

Today starts Day 1 of another 29-Day Plant Based Eating Challenge. My first goal is to try to eat almost entirely plant based with as few oils and processed foods as possible. My second goal is to keep it simple so others can easily follow along.

Over the weekend I made sure there was only a limited amount of unapproved foods in the house. We don't usually have meat, unless it's deli meat for Funny Bunny's lunches. And the only "milk" in the house is Almond Milk. We have some processed foods like packaged crackers and snacks but those are for Funny Bunny and hubby. I just need to steer clear.

I bought lots of fruits and veggies and planned my meals so I'm not stuck staring in the fridge when I'm hungry.

Here are my meal plans for the week:

Breakfasts - Each day I plan to make my big bowl of cereal, oats, grains, and fruit. Super filling and healthy!

Lunches - I'll either be eating leftovers from the night before, Quinoa bowls, or rice bowls. They are very easy to make, filling, and there is no cooking involved. I'll post some recipes later.

Dinners - Spaghetti with homemade sauce, veggie and noodle stir fry, black bean and veggie fajitas, and veggie and bean soup. All very simple and easy to make.

Snacks - Fresh fruit and I found a recipe for vegan chocolate chip cookies. Baking yummy snacks can be hit or miss so I'm hoping these turn out yummy!

Wordless Wednesday on Thursday

Finally had the time to clean all the history and science projects from last year off the bookshelf. It's always fun to look back at what we created. Now to find them a permanent storage place.

Homeschooling with Heart of Dakota - Week 1

Heart of Dakota: Resurrection to Reformation - Unit 1: The Ancient Church

Reading About History: Peril and Peace. Funny Bunny is reading this book independently and says she likes the way it is written and is enjoying it.

History Storytime: Forbidden Gates. I am reading this aloud and we are both enjoying it. It's sometimes hard to put down. It is set in Jerusalem around the time of the Apostle Stephen was alive.
