Medieval Costume Review

I'm so excited to share with you what we received in the mail today!  Funny Bunny couldn't wait to try it on!  It's a Medieval Costume from Costume Supercenter.

We chose a size large and it fits perfectly.  The gown is a navy blue crushed velvet and stops over her feet right above the ground.  It has gold ric-rac trim and a swirling gold foil design on the top and sleeves.  It comes with a matching headpiece with a sheer black veil in the back.

I personally feel like it is made very well and can be worn over and over again. It is not flimsy like some costumes we have seen at local retail stores.

We are currently studying the Medieval time period so it fits perfectly with our studies, and I think Funny Bunny will be wearing it at the next local Homeschool Living Wax Museum.  It would also be fun to wear to something like the Florida Renaissance Festival.

It was easy to place my order on Costume Supercenter and shipping was quick.  We received the costume within a week.  This Girl's Court Lady Costume is normally just $29.97, so very affordable.

Thoughts of an 11-Year Old:  I love the Girl's Court Lady Costume! It's velvet, so it's really comfy; it also has a neat headpiece with a tulle sort of veil. It really looks like something from the Renaissance, which also happens to be my favorite time period in history.

Speaking of history, every year we have a Homeschool Living Wax Museum, where you dress up like a famous character or a person from a certain time period, and give a speech about your topic. Last year my friend and I were two girls from the Great Depression, and I think this year it would be very fun to do a Renaissance theme with her!

I really loved the Girl's Court Lady Costume! It's flowy, it's comfortable, it's cute! And it also may be my next Halloween costume too, we'll see. :)

The Best of 2014: Reviews

Last year I reviewed a total of 52 products!!  I really can't believe I reviewed so many!  Although I liked many of them, I've selected 15 favorites!  Below I've listed them in no particular order.

My Student Logbook - Funny Bunny has been using it to check off work that she has completed, and it is not only helpful for her to see how much she has left for the day, but also a great log of what she has completed for the year. ~ We still use this ~

The Brinkman Adventures -  I think The Brinkman Adventures are wonderfully exciting stories for families of all ages. The episodes span the globe and give the listener a glimpse of the real life adventures of a missionary family. ~ We still listen to this in the car ~

ARTistic Pursuits Sculpture Technique: Model - We have all thoroughly enjoyed working in this book!  The supplies were easy to find and the instructions for each project were very clear.  We had never worked with putty before and it was so simple to use.

If He Had Not Come - We both really enjoyed the story as well as the beautifully illustrated pictures.  I would highly recommend that all families add this title to their Christmas book collection.

Snake Oil - Snake Oil is a very fun game, and it has lots of silly results. It is a Pitch-A-Product game, and it can get very goofy. ~ We have played this many times since receiving it ~

Veritas Press Self-Paced History -  I have really been enjoying this course and so has Funny Bunny. I feel that the material is engaging and activities varied enough that the student will not get bored.  And the material is reviewed enough that they will retain it.

Kaia's Blessing - I like Kaia’s Blessing because of the excitement and the adventure.  It made me want to know what happens next!  My favorite part was when Charles time traveled.  It is a good book with a Happily Ever After ending! 

Verilux Lamp -  I still can't believe how much brighter her work area is.  And I was surprised in the difference between the artificial light compared to the Natural Spectrum light. It's really made a huge difference! ~ We use this lamp daily ~

Riley Mae Book Series - I have always liked the Riley Mae series, so I was super excited about the new Sole Fire Safari book. It was as good as always, with just the right amount of suspense, quirkiness, and of course Godliness and faith to keep me on my toes.

Analytical Grammar - Analytical Grammar is a no-nonsense, mastery approach to teaching grammar. I think it is a strong grammar program and I would recommend it. ~ We still use this ~

Curiosity Quest - I really liked these DVDs, because they taught me a lot more about things I thought I already knew about (like turtles) and things that I wasn't quite as familiar with (like mushrooms).

Diary of a Real Payne Book Series - I really liked Diary of a Real Payne Book 3: Oh Baby! because, like the last two, EJ is as silly, imaginative, and unsophisticated as ever, while she still praises and learns about God. 

Maestro Classics - These CDs are great for young and old alike!  I love how they mold children's literature with classical music in a way that is enjoyable for kids of all ages.  And the booklets that are included have a wealth of information.

Moving Beyond the Page - The experiments in the Science Kit were really easy to do, and they were fun. You know, sometimes you do an experiment, and it either doesn't work, or you think afterwords, Huh. What did that do? But not only were these easy and fun, they worked in real life and I can use them!  

Lilla Rose - We found the clip to be very well made and the beading and design beautiful! It is simple to use and it comes with a sliding pin attached, so there is no worry about it getting lost. ~ We still use our clip ~

It's 2015!

Wow, it's been a while since I last posted.  It was nice to take an extended break from blogging during the holidays.

Hubby took some time off work too, so we were able to take several day trips the last week of December.

Now Funny Bunny and I are trying to get back into the swing of things.  I've decided to do a little "spring cleaning" so our house is half in order and half disaster.

We are still chugging along with Heart of Dakota.  Today we started Day 1 of Unit 18.

I'm also back to trying my best at eat plant based meals.  Not starting as strong as last year but I'm at about 80%, so not too bad.

Lilla Rose Review

I was contacted by Jennifer over at A Glimpse of Our Life to try out and review a Flexi Hair Clip by Lilla Rose.

If you are not familiar with Lilla Rose, it centers around unique, functional, and well made hair jewelry, the most popular being the Flexi Hair Clip, which is what I'll be telling you about.

We received the Festive Poinsettia, size extra small.  You can see it below.  Isn't it beautiful?!

Before ordering though, it's very important to watch the video on Sizing and Styling so you know what size to order for your hair.  Based on the thickness of our hair and that we would be using the clip to only put half our hair up, we chose extra small.

We found the clip to be very well made and the beading and design beautiful! It is simple to use and as you can see in the picture above, it comes with a sliding pin attached, so there is no worry about it getting lost.

Although we only used it to put our hair half up, it is very versatile and, depending on the size you order, can be used to put hair in a ponytail, tails up, french twist, and more.

Funny Bunny doesn't usually want to have anything done with her hair, so I was excited to have her try this.  I think it turned out quite nice and she likes it.

I like it for my hair as well.  My hair is thicker and more wavy but I can still easily pull half into the clip.  It's simple for me to attach and looks much nicer than the ponytail holder I'm prone to wearing. :)

Blogging News

I apologize for the lack of blog posts lately.  Between decorating for Christmas, cleaning the house, and working with Funny Bunny to make crafts for our local Homeschooling Gift & Craft Fair last week, I was short on time.  Thankfully all of that is behind us now so we are back on schedule. :)

I do have some sad blogging news to share though.  After being with The TOS Review Crew since the summer of 2010 {4 1/2 years!!}, I have decided to take a break, at least for now.  My plan will be for Funny Bunny to start Challenge A with Classical Conversations in the fall, so I didn't want to add any more work for her during that time.

I have some very exciting news as well!  I will continue blogging and we will still be reviewing homeschooling and other products, but just at a more relaxed pace.

As a matter of fact, I have one review coming this week that I'm excited to share about, so stay tuned!!

Truth in the Tinsel for Advent

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you are still looking for something to use with your kids for Advent, look no further!!  You need to check out Truth in the Tinsel: An Advent Experience For Little Hands.

We've used it the past couple years and would recommend it to anyone with young children.
