The Best of 2013: Reviews

Friday I took a more personal look back at 2013 and today I want to tell you about our

~ FAVORITE REVIEWS OF 2013 ~

We reviewed over 45 products and selected 14 as our favorites {in no particular order}.  Enjoy!

Rosie's Doll Clothes and Patterns: Sewing the doll clothes with the help of the Rosie's Doll Clothes videos was so easy. They came out good, and though some parts were harder than others, like the seams, they came out better then we expected them to. The videos helped a lot. The dolls like their outfits. ~ Funny Bunny

VocabularySpellingCity: And the best part? The games, of course! After you've completed an assignment, you can play a game! ~ Funny Bunny

Diary of a Real Payne: I only read a few chapters aloud with Funny Bunny, but during that time we were in stitches! EJ is a real character with a wild and vivid imagination! ~ Me

Classroom Friendly Supplies This amazing pencil sharpener was invented by a elementary school teacher, who along with his co-workers, was fed up with the loud and inefficient pencil sharpeners that they had in their classrooms. ~ Me

Knock I like Knock because it is a book about spiritual choices and it teaches a lesson with every choice. ~ Funny Bunny

Dig It Games: Mayan MysteriesWhen I first heard that I was getting Mayan Mysteries, I was super-excited because I had previously reviewed another Dig It game called Roman Town, and LOVED it! ~ Funny Bunny

Institute for Excellence in Writing IEW is fun for me because I like to write, but if I didn't like to write, this just might make me love writing! ~ Funny Bunny

The Adventures of Lily Lapp SeriesFunny Bunny and I read Life with Lily together and found ourselves laughing hysterically at some of the silly and fun situations. It was hard for us to put the book down because we were continuously wanting to know what would happen next. ~ Me

Memoria Press: Prima Latina: Teaching songs and prayers is a great way for students to actively use the Latin they have learned. ~ Me

See the Light: God's Special SurpriseSee the Light is fun to watch, but even more fun to draw! My favorite piece of artwork was Moses In The Nile with Jim Pence. ~ Funny Bunny

Salem Ridge Press: Hilda the BritonEvery time a chapter ended I begged to read more. In my opinion, it was a REALLY-REALLY-REALLY great book! It is one of my favorite books this year!! ~ Funny Bunny

A Journey Through Learning Lapbooks:  One of the best things about A Journey Through Learning Lapbooks is that you really do not need any other resources. ~ Me

Apologia: Exploring Creation with Zoology 3The text is really engaging and she was always ready to hear more, sometimes making it hard to stop. It stimulated some wonderful discussions between us, which is what a great curriculum should! ~ Me

What Would the Founding Fathers Think? My motto for this book? "Everyone, including adults, should read this - especially the people running for President." ~ Funny Bunny

Menu Plan Monday - January 6

http://orgjunkie.com/2014/01/menu-plan-monday-jan-613.html

Ok, so last week I announced that I was going to be making more healthy crock pot meals, which I am, but I'll be first starting off the week with a 3-day detox!!

I've never done anything like this before, but it is all natural, whole foods, and a pretty light detox, so I won't be starving myself or anything {hopefully}.  Here is what will be on the menu for the first three days this week:

On Rising - Lemon/Ginger Water
Breakfast - Green Juice
Snack - Detox Tea
Lunch - Large Green Salad
Snack - Detox Tea or Green Juice
Dinner - Detox Soup
Before Bed - Sleepy Tea

If I get hungry I can add another Green Juice in there.

As for the rest of the family, they will be eating the Detox Soup with me for dinner on Monday night and if they like it, it's what's for dinner Tue and Wed also.  ;)  If they don't like it, I have the two meals below planned for the week.

Crock Pot Chicken Taco Chili
Slow Cooker Baked Ziti

Please wish me luck on this 3-day detox!!  I'm hoping to make it through all three days and praying I don't get a massive headache {I already eliminated soda so hopefully that will help}.

I'll be documenting my meals and condition along the way, so stay tuned!!

Are you meal planning this week.  I'd love to hear about your recipes.  Please leave a link in the comments.  Thanks!

2013: A Look Back

Looking Back at 2013

I can't believe it's already 2014!!  I know we say it every year, but time flies! Here's the best of our 2013.

Last year I started off by continuing my plant based diet.  I've since deviated from that and it's been hit or miss most of the year.  Trying to get back and on track next week with something new.

I joined Pinterest...and actually started pinning. :)

I tried my first green smoothie.  Next week I'll be trying some juice recipes that I'll share.

We started our annual spring garden.  Things were growing nicely, and since the weather stayed cooler longer, we were able to harvest more than usual.

I got highlights for the first time ever.  I need to do this again...badly!

Some bluebirds moved in.

Funny Bunny turned 10! Akk!!  She also had her first sleepover.

We got our first caterpillars!  And then we got more caterpillars.

I was able to go to the FPEA Homeschool Convention in Orlando and met Dwane Thomas with Visual Latin and Andrew Pudewa with IEW.  Very exciting!!

Hubby and I celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary!  We went to IKEA!

We switched churches and I really think it was the right decision.  Funny Bunny is now involved with Choir and Preteen Group on Wednesday nights and Sunday School and Praise Team on Sunday mornings.  She is staying very busy and I've been volunteering with the 4th grade preteen girls on Wednesday nights.  We've met a lot of great families!

Funny Bunny attended her very first day camp, which was a week-long dance camp.  She loved it!

She also started 5th grade which is really crazy to me!!  We decided to continue to use Heart of Dakota this year.

I continued to work as an Independent Consultant for Thirty-One Gifts and am still enjoying it.

We took a wonderful trip to North Carolina to visit family in October.  It ranks as one of our best vacations and we are ready to go back!

Funny Bunny attended a dance convention in Daytona.  Not the most fun weekend getaway for the adults, but I know the girls had a great time!  Below she is doing a toe stand.

And of course I had the pleasure of reviewing a ton of products!!  I'll be reviewing once again this year for the Schoolhouse Review Crew and am ready to get started!  Before that though, I'll be posting my favorite product reviews of 2013, so stay tuned!

Menu Plan Monday - December 30

http://orgjunkie.com/2013/12/menu-plan-monday-dec-3013.html

It's been a loooong while since I posted a Menu Plan Monday!  Too long!  The past couple years I have been up and down with food and in the process gained about 10lbs so I need to get things under control!  NOW!

This year Funny Bunny added more extracurricular activities in the evening so we are out of the house 4 nights a week.  Over time I was just throwing quick meals together, or worse...grabbing food in the car.  Blahh!!

So one major problem with eating quick, nutrient deficient foods for dinner is that we are all hungry for junk food soon afterward.  So I have been on the hunt for HEALTHY Crock Pot Meals!  I know you are thinking that there can be nothing healthy about a meal made in a crock pot, but I've searched for them and found several great potentials.

Making the meals in the crock pot will not only save me time, making dinner ready when we get home, but I'm also hoping that these healthier and more substantial meals will keep us more full.  Plus, my goal is to start exercising again, so I'll be able to work all those extra calories off.

I'm also hoping that these large crock pot meals will give us plenty of leftovers for a second night, saving us money too.

As of now I don't have any recipes to share, but I do want to tell you about the websites I've found.

Stacy Makes Sense
Skinny Taste
Slender Kitchen
Cooking Light
Greatist

I also have a subscription to eMeals, so I'll be getting Slow Cooker Clean Eating meal plans each week.

If you have any HEALTHY Crock Pot Recipes, please share them in the comments below!  Thanks!
